Wiley’s Bicentennial

Wiley was founded in 1807, during the presidency of Thomas Jefferson, and has been a vital source of information and understanding for generations of learners. For over two centuries, Wiley has endeavored to teach, inform, and enlighten. Our history is intertwined with the advance of publishing, the evolution of modern science, the country’s hunger for knowledge, and the growth of the global community. Today, as bold new technologies change the way we live and learn, Wiley is providing scientists, professionals, students, teachers, entrepreneurs, and lifelong learners with more access to more content than ever before.

In 2007, the Company celebrated the bicentennial of its founding in New York City in a number of ways: the publication of Knowledge for Generations: Wiley and the Global Publishing Industry, 1807–2007, the creation of an online Wiley Living History page and an online archival exhibition, festivities in its offices around the globe, and much more. The bicentennial celebration is documented on the following pages.
